VoIP, which stands for Voice over Internet Protocol, is a phone service where calls are placed over the internet, rather than a traditional landline. The VoIP service takes your voice signals and converts them to digital signals that are sent as data over your broadband line. Your call data is securely stored in the cloud instead of a bulky physical on-premise server.
While most people can use VoIP, not everyone qualifies. The #1 required is a fast and stable Internet connection. Users on dial-up or low speed DSL connections can not use VoIP. However, if you have a high-speed connection powered by a cable provider or fiber optic connection, you most likely qualify.
Just give us a call and we’ll ask you a few questions about your current phone system, your Internet access and what you want to accomplish by using voice over IP technology. From there, we’ll let you know if Voice Over IP is a good fit for your business.
Yes. Just like when you change cell phone providers and take your number with you, we will accomplish the same thing. Having said that, you might not need to keep all of the numbers. For example, in a small office of 15 people, you might have 7 phone lines. Typically this is one “main line” and 6 “roll over” numbers.
In the world of voice over IP, we don’t need the roll over numbers to accomplish the same task. So in this case, we would only move the main number. In fact, with one number we can have many, many simultaneous calls. Sound confusing? if so, don’t worry…that’s where KMB VoIP comes in to make it simple!
Compatibility will depend largely on the end-goal. If you are trying to move to a full VoIP system, then no. The KMB VoIP offering is a replacement for your existing phone system. However, if you would like to benefit from the savings offered by VoIP, while keeping your existing phone system, then we would provide you with phone lines that will work with the existing system. This means that the features that you are using in your existing system will still be there as you will continue to use it. KMB VoIP will simply provide the phone lines (via the internet) that will feed your current system.
